This week marked an extravagant tradition within the culinary industry.
The James Beard Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of the food world,” took place at the Lyric Opera in Chicago on Monday, May 1 and Yummie Network was lucky enough to attend the star-studded event.
This year’s award ceremony was hosted by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who had some friendly advice for the crowd.
“Okay nominees, so just remember– the best speeches are like an amuse-bouche: a tiny bite that is complex, beautiful and leaves us wanting more.”
The ceremony was one for the books, complete with champagne, swanky attire and unexpected victories.
One unexpected victory was Rick Bayless’ restaurant, Topolobampo winning Outstanding Restaurant.
This coveted award honors restaurants that are at least 10 years old and are “a national standard bearer of consistent quality and excellence in food, atmosphere and service.”
While restaurants and chefs from all over the country won awards, another shocking revelation was Los Angeles’ shutout. No finalists from the city won, which came as quite the shock from such a large and culinary innovative city.
Just because the 2017 James Beard Awards are over now doesn’t mean the coverage will stop though.
Download the Yummie Network Podcast and listen to our hosts Dane Neal and Beth Peterson, as they interviewed the stars on the red carpet regarding all things food.
